Shaping the future of Agave in Australia

Uniting growers, researchers, distillers, and innovators to build a sustainable industry

Who We Are

The Australian Agave Association is a national organisation uniting growers, researchers, distillers, SAF stakeholders, and agave enthusiasts. We formed to support the emergence of a vibrant, sustainable agave industry in Australia — one that values collaboration, innovation, and the unique strengths of this remarkable plant.

Our Purpose

We aim to encourage and promote the adoption of agave in Australia — as a crop with unique potential to meet the growing demand for sustainable solutions in food, fibre, fuel, and spirits. As interest builds across these sectors, we see agave as the common thread: resilient, resource-efficient, and well-suited to Australia’s climate. Our goal is to help lay the foundations for a locally informed, adaptable, and forward-looking industry — one that supports regional communities and environmental stewardship.

What We Do

The Association acts as a hub for knowledge, connection, and advocacy. We:

  • Share the latest research and best practices for agave growing and processing

  • Support collaboration across academic, commercial, and community sectors

  • Advocate for sustainable agricultural practices and land use

  • Create opportunities for networking, education, and future investment

Why It Matters

Agave is a hardy, water-efficient crop that thrives in dry climates — making it ideally suited to large parts of Australia. As global demand grows for sustainable raw materials and renewable energy, agave offers exciting possibilities in fields ranging from premium spirits to carbon-reducing fuels. By fostering an informed and connected community, we aim to help Australia lead in responsible agave development.
